NDIS Counselling Sunshine Coast
Through the NDIS, Positive Moods can provide counselling to people with disability in need of psychological support in the Sunshine Coast. NDIS participants can access support from Positive Moods professionals to acquire and develop different techniques and skills to strengthen their mental health to achieve their individualised goals through a series of counselling sessions.
The NDIS or National Disability Insurance Schemes seeks to help people with a permanent or significant disability, under the age of 65, acquire the support and resource they need so that they can live their daily lives with fewer burdens. The NDIS is unique in the way they provide for their participants because they understand that each individual has different sets of needs because of their disability. The NDIS allows the participants to personalise their plans and which services and resources to acquire per that individual's specific needs, situation, and goals. This helps empower the individual, give them tools to live their day to day lives as normally as possible, and help them live within the Sunshine Coast community.
The NDIS offers counselling services and other resources to people with disability and allows them to create their plan of action based on their immediate needs and future goals. The NDIS can fund services and support for education, employment, social participation, independence, living arrangements, and health and wellbeing, given that all should be reasonable and necessary for the participant. Once the participant's plan and funding are approved, they are given access to the services and resources they chose to help with their daily needs and to achieve future goals.

Through counselling, our psychologists and counsellors can administer therapeutic techniques as needed by the client such as Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mediation, Specialist Relationship Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Therapy, and Relaxation Skills Training.
Counselling is a collaborative effort between the client and the psychologists or counsellor to help the client achieve their therapeutic goals. Our psychologists and counsellors can help the client in identifying their goals, build self-esteem and independence, develop coping skills, improve communications skills, seek solutions to problems that cause turmoil, develop positive behavioural changes, and promote the optimal mental health of the client. This can be done in-home for the client and their families in the Sunshine Coast.
Positive Moods offers different counselling options for their clients through therapeutic support. Therapeutic support is tailor-made to the client's unique and goals with a clear objective to enhance all aspects of the client's life for them to overcome mental barriers. This is all in coordination with the client, their carers and Support Coordinators. Other forms of counselling under therapeutic support includes:
Individual Counselling
Individual counselling is what people traditionally think of when they hear the word counselling. Our Positive Moods psychologist or counsellor will sit one-on-one with the client and with their coordination, help the client to achieve their personal goals and hopefully gain greater insight in life as well as facilitate other aspects in the client’s life that they feel needs developing
Group Counselling
In group counselling, one of our psychologist or counsellor will facilitate a peer discussion between up to three participants. This is to help them to learn from each other, build friendships, and connect over shared experiences. Group counselling also allows the participants to improve their communication skills and teamwork with other people. This may hopefully increase the participants' community participation, social activities, and chances of employment.
Group Therapy
Group therapy is different from group counselling where instead there are multiple participants in group counselling, in group therapy, there are instead multiple professionals working with a single client. This is to help the client achieve their concrete goals in life. Our psychologists and counsellors will collaborate with other stakeholders for the client to receive the maximum support he needs to achieve his goals.
Community Engagement Assistance
This is a group session between several NDIS participant run by Positive Moods to help them improve social relations and community participation. Assistance may help the NDIS participants to become empowered and improve their interaction with each other and their social network. With assistance, the NDIS participants can effectively engage in the Sunshine Coast community as a group and help them gain insight into their lives, make informed decisions and achieve identified social, or community goals.
