Cognitive Assessments
A cognitive assessment is a specialised evaluation that aims to assess an individual's cognitive abilities and functioning. It involves a series of standardised tests, measures, and techniques that are administered to evaluate various cognitive domains such as memory, attention, problem-solving, language skills, perceptual abilities, and processing speed.
This assessment comes highly recommended for individuals seeking NDIS support and review, assistance with higher education, as well as work-ready placement support. In order to evaluate adults and older adolescents aged 16-90 years, we employ the highly regarded WAIS-IV cognitive assessment. By utilizing this comprehensive cognitive assessment, we gain valuable insights into an individual's unique learning profile, along with their areas of strength and areas that may require improvement. This assessment is particularly recommended when there is a suspicion of an intellectual impairment.
This assessment does not assess for ADHD, Autism or executive functioning difficulties. For more information on other assessments, click here.
Our Team follows a standard procedure that includes:
Session 1: Intake Session (Approximately one hour) During the intake session, we conduct a comprehensive exploration of an individual's adaptive living skills, disability severity level, and social skills. This is accomplished through the thoughtful distribution of specially designed questionnaires. The purpose of this session is to gather in-depth information that will contribute to a more accurate assessment.
Session 2: Cognitive Testing using WAIS-IV (Approximately two hours) In this session, we administer the WAIS-IV cognitive assessment, which allows for a thorough evaluation of an individual's cognitive abilities. The assessment covers various domains, including memory, attention, problem-solving, language skills, perceptual abilities, and processing speed. This session provides valuable insights into an individual's cognitive strengths and areas that may require further attention.
Session 3: Feedback (Approximately one hour) During the feedback session, our experienced professionals meticulously review the assessment results and offer constructive feedback to the individual. This session serves as an opportunity to discuss the findings, clarify any concerns, and provide recommendations based on the assessment outcomes. Our team ensures that the feedback session is informative, supportive, and empowering.
By organising the cognitive assessment into these three distinct sessions, we aim to provide a comprehensive and personalised evaluation experience for our clients, ultimately helping them gain a deeper understanding of their cognitive abilities and areas of potential growth.
Upon completion of the assessment, a comprehensive report detailing the findings and providing valuable recommendations will be furnished to the client. Please be advised that the report writing process may take between 2-3 weeks. However, if the assessment is scheduled with a provisional psychologist, the report writing period may extend to 4 weeks. It is important to note that all assessments conducted by provisional psychologists are carefully reviewed and approved by fully registered psychologists.
The total cost of this package is calculated based on 7 hours of dedicated clinician time, which includes the preparation of the written report.
